An official of the late Lê dynasty in Vietnam who was born in Thượng Kỳ, Nghĩa Hưng, Nam Định, passed the doctoral examination in 1772, served in various posts including Surveillance Commissioner of Kinh Bắc and Nghệ An, and Governor of Lạng Sơn, refused to serve after the fall of the Lê dynasty, feigned blindness during the Tây Sơn era and was allowed by King Quang Trung to live in retirement teaching students in his hometown, and died in 1793.
